You can learn a lot about a person by what they read. As a child it was a special treat when I was able to go to the library or bookstore. In fact, going to the library and bookstore is still a passion for me today. I use books for inspiration, guidance or just to let my mind wonder… some of my current favorites are:

Coming Home

Coming Home: A Seasonal Guide to Creating Family Traditions
by Rosanna Bowles

From Amazon: Home is where the heart ought to be. But nowadays too many of us are missing the human connection and emotional replenishment that only a rewarding home life can bestow. Designer Rosanna Bowles wants to change that. In Coming Home, she shares a year-round plan for establishing traditions—and, in the process, making memories—that will restore home to its central place in your family’s life.

Taking her cues from the seasons’ changing moods—spring’s awakening, summer’s vibrancy, fall’s bittersweet transition, and winter’s introspection—Bowles creates a calendar of activities, rituals, and celebrations that will bring you back home in the deepest and most fulfilling sense. And because the table is where family and beloved friends most often come together, she provides more than fifty favorite recipes—for simple family meals and sumptuous holiday feasts—that deliciously express each season’s character.

Personal Note: I found this book to have a fun-loving and sophisticated quirky spirit to it. It very much embodied the spirit found in the dinnerware collections design by the author, Rosanna Bowles. I love the way this book embraces the seasons and seasonal changes and celebrations. It is as much a design and entertaining book as it is a  cookbook full of recipes… it is all about celebrating life, family and friends!

Color: Natural Palettes for Painted Rooms

Color: Natural Palettes for Painted Rooms
by Donald Kaufman & Taffy Dahl

From Amazon: The first lifestyle book to show groups of colors inspired by nature and how they work on the interior walls of 26 homes. Kaufman’s colors are distinctive in that they are designed to capture the nuances of color in nature. The authors reveal their paint-mixing techniques, and recipes for five neutral Donald Kaufman paints are included.

Personal Note: I have a passion for color, so it is a joy to read a book whose authors also have  great passion, knowledge and experience in the color world. This book is a fresh and exciting look at color and color palettes for interiors. The author’s philosophies regarding architecture and the use of color was stimulating… A fascinating and useful reference book!

These books can be found at Amazon.com or click on the titles above for an instant link.
